My mobility scooter has a 270W motor. It operates with two 12V 12AH batteries. The battery charger works only with 110 current. Voltage converters seem to be rated by watts. What capacity voltage converter would I need to purchase to recharge my batteries in Europe? I don't want to tote around any more bulk or weight than necessary. Same question for a 450W scooter.
My charger is 2amps.
Rascal, your main question is the minimum capacity to charge those 2 batteries, and how long that it will take. Generally, chargers are rated at a volts and amps rating. I'm willing to bet that your 2 batteries are wired in series. You would need a charger that supplies at least 27 watts, or 1.2 amps, at 24 volts.
Now, let's change this around a little bit and get something that you don't need an electrical outlet for, and would go just about anywhere that you want to go. Look up "fuel cells". These nifty devices are small, but can charge your battery litterally anywhere, so long as you have fuel to power it. Generally they use propane, so a 1 or 2 pound cylinder would provide easy power to recharge your batteries. This means that with a little planning, you would be free to explore where you would never consider going before. The fuel cell burns a fuel, with air, and creates electricity. What I have seen, and asked about are fairly small, but can deliver the voltage, and current that you need. Their efficiency is over 85% for energy in, versus energy out.

I want to buy an electric (non mobility scooter) and use it within my town in New Jersey however I am wondering something What is the speed limit a person with an electric scooter can go before it becomes illegal and does it really require a moped / motorcycle license even if it goes 19 mph?

I have an 18 month old mobility scooter in north London, but I am having trouble giving it away. Can anyone suggest a place, a person or an organisation that would appreciate what is an expensive piece of equipment? Thanks for your help.
You could contact your local GP Surgery as I am sure they may know someone who is desperate for a mobility scooter but cannot afford the cost. I am a Practice Manager for a GP in South London and could name you at least two people from my surgery who would jump at the chance to make their life easier and open up the outside world to them once more.

I need a mobility scooter which I, as a disabled person, can fold or disassemble, and put in the boot of a car. So I need to find the scooter with the lightest "heaviest piece", if you see what I mean. Any ideas?
1. For senior citizens that meet the requirements, Medicare will pay up to 80% of the cost of a scooter and many companies file the paperwork for you.

My wifes mobility scooter used to be able to do 15 miles approx on one battery charge, now it will only do half a mile. I have put new batteries on it but this makes no difference. Help would be very much appreciated as she is unable to get out and about without it. Thank you.
Batteries are new gel type and are fully charged each time the scoter is used
these scooters don't have an alternator. Check the cables on the battery and make sure they are clean and tight and also check the recharger.

What disgracefull conduct from this O.A.P. these mobility scooters are a menace as are the majority of owners/drivers. Many times I have had close brushes with goggle eyed drivers who seem to think they own the pavment/isle of shops. This loop hole needs to be closed before the next poor little mite gets dragged under. I wish little Madison and her parents all the best and offer my full support to the plight. SHAME ON YOU O.A.P Bet you that if it had been a teenager on a skateboard etc that had knocked the poor child over, they'd have been cuffed & up in front of the judge. A lot (not all) of OAP's on these scooters show no thought to anyone else & feel they have the command of the pedestrian...
