I need insurance to cover a mobility scooter I am hireing while we are away in the UK. I thought theinsurance for my own scooter would cover it, but as it's a new scooter the insurance doesn't come into effect until next year when the garuntee runs out, and then is only effective on my own scooter. We go away at the begining of next week so I need to know ASP, so I can find it at the latest Monday
It should be covered in the hire fee. Phone wherever it is you intend hiring it from and ask them.
Is it necessary to have insurance if one owns a mobility scooter, Is it compulsary or just advisable to have it?
Hi just been reding up on this question for my dad. At this moment is not compulsory to have 3rd party insurance for a mobility scooter. I think however it would be very advisable to have such an insurance in case the driver has an accident caused by them, for example on a crowded pavement. Its worth a check with the house insurance to see if it covers this.

Reduce the atrophy of the upper leg muscles normally associated with extended periods of off-loading the injured leg.
I know there are a few companies who offer this but the premiums seem hefty.....when the scooter is indoors or on the owner property surely its coverted in the contents & if used outdoors its a bit like a bike .....again covered by contents as a bike would be.....so is it justa frightener that they tell you to get insurance on them because you feel pretty vulnerable to start with?
My mother has a mobility scooter, the shop where we bought it said to get insurance, however as it is electric powered there is no legal obligation to get insurance,
When I called the insurance company they said.
If we have personal possesions cover on the home insurance policy it would cover the scooter whilst out of the home.
If the scooter is kept inside the property it would be covered as part of the contents insurance.
If we have accident cover it would cover third party costs of any accident involving the scooter,
The road traffic act states that all vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine must have insurance, Mobility Scooter dont have an internal combustion engine meaning its not a legal requirement to have insurance
Would anyone be able to recommend a UK company who can provide insurance for a mobility scooter, preferably payable monthly via direct debit? All I can find is companies that want immediate full payment, which is not an option for my 70 year old mum.
The scooter is provided on permanant loan via a scheme run by SSAFA, they have recommended an insurance company but they want the full premium in one payment and that just isn't an option for my mum.
If this scooter is supplied under the Mobility Scheme, they provide the insurance.
A lady has trouble walking and needs a mobility scooter but has no insurance. What can she do to get insurance? and the scooter? this is in Tennessee
Most likely nothing. Once disabled it is almost impossible to get health insurance.
You can find scooters for sale on Craig's List, Ebay, and in local classifieds. When people die their scooters are often sold very cheaply. I bought one almost 10 years ago for $500 from a son of a man who had dies - it is still working. I recently got a second one, because I wanted a lighter wieight one - and I bought it new for $900.
How To Care For Your Mobility Scooter Batteries
Caring for your mobility scooter batteries properly will not only ensure you get the best possible performance; but will also cut down on unnecessary replacements and costly repair bills. It may initially seem somewhat of a chore of course, but is really nothing more than taxing than developing a sensible routine.
No matter how short trip, your battery should be placed on charge on your return. Indeed, mobility scooter batteries should be kept on charge unless being used; to ensure maximum capacity at all times. Not only does this improve both performance and lifespan, but also ensures you have sufficient power to complete your trip, should there be any surprises whilst you’re out.
