Where to find a mobility scooter charger, that isnt standard?

Hi, i need a charger for a Lark 4 mobility scooter.
The scooter has 2 12v batterys. The charging jack on the scooter looks like it takes a plug that is 6.35mm (like a large earphone plug) but all i can seem to find are the 3 pin connectors.
Please can someone help?
Thanks,
Mike
p.s I dont think Lark 4 exist anmore!

Mobility scooter charger?

I have a 24 volt one. I have had the connector changed so it charges my son's 24 volt kids scooter. I would like to add another connector so it charges a different scooter aswell but not sure of the polarity...so it would be 50/50 whether it is connected the right way round. If I did this and it was reversed polarity then would the Mobility scooter charger blow??? or is there protection against this happening built in??? If it were then I could try it without worry, then if need be swap the wires over and get it right second time. Anybody know please?

Ask a friend, neighbour or colleague if they have a multimeter or multitester you can borrow to test the polarity or ask a friendly auto-electricians or RAC patrol or the like. For safetys sake DO NOT GUESS at it. Most items nowadays have a built in protection against reversed polarity but if it has'nt and you connect the wrong way it is a possibility the battery could explode, please Don't Chance It.

Why can't you use an extension lead to charge up a mobility scooter?

I noticed in the manual and on a label on the plug that you cannot attach an extension lead to the charger of a mobility scooter, why is this and what can you do if you cannot get the lead close enough to an electric socket?

This is for safety reasons.

If you were to use an extension cable you'd have the following risks...

1) Fire because:
a)the cable may not have thick enough copper and so may over heat.
b)the cable may be damaged and so be thinner in one point and so over heat.
c)the cable may be coiled and a coil carrying large AC currents will get hot as it's creating and reversing a magnetic field 50 times a second.

2)Electric shock - the extension cable or its connector may not be sufficiently insulated - especially if you let it get wet :-)

3)Trip hazard...

If you can mitigate all of these and are sure there are no other issues then you'll be ok. Possibly the best bet is get someone to install a socket nearer the scooter - or ask the scooter supplier to advise on / supply an extension lead (and don't coil it )

What capacity voltage converter do I need to charge mobility scooter in Europe?

My mobility scooter has a 270W motor. It operates with two 12V 12AH batteries. The battery charger works only with 110 current. Voltage converters seem to be rated by watts. What capacity voltage converter would I need to purchase to recharge my batteries in Europe? I don't want to tote around any more bulk or weight than necessary. Same question for a 450W scooter.
My charger is 2amps.

Rascal, your main question is the minimum capacity to charge those 2 batteries, and how long that it will take. Generally, chargers are rated at a volts and amps rating. I'm willing to bet that your 2 batteries are wired in series. You would need a charger that supplies at least 27 watts, or 1.2 amps, at 24 volts.
Now, let's change this around a little bit and get something that you don't need an electrical outlet for, and would go just about anywhere that you want to go. Look up "fuel cells". These nifty devices are small, but can charge your battery litterally anywhere, so long as you have fuel to power it. Generally they use propane, so a 1 or 2 pound cylinder would provide easy power to recharge your batteries. This means that with a little planning, you would be free to explore where you would never consider going before. The fuel cell burns a fuel, with air, and creates electricity. What I have seen, and asked about are fairly small, but can deliver the voltage, and current that you need. Their efficiency is over 85% for energy in, versus energy out.
