The scooter takes (2) 12V/12AH batteries and I usually plug the charger into the scooter then into a 3 prong outlet at home. Would I be able to safely plug this into a converter in my car when not in use to keep the battery charged and ready?
you can safely charge your scooter's battery using this converter, the only problem is that you cannot leave the converter connected to your car battery permanently; these converters consume electricity from the car battery, and they tend to heat alot, even when no power is consumed from the other side of the converter(the 110 or 220 vAC output), you dont wanna end with an empty car battery nor a damaged converter.

My mobility scooter has a 270W motor. It operates with two 12V 12AH batteries. The battery charger works only with 110 current. Voltage converters seem to be rated by watts. What capacity voltage converter would I need to purchase to recharge my batteries in Europe? I don't want to tote around any more bulk or weight than necessary. Same question for a 450W scooter.
My charger is 2amps.
Rascal, your main question is the minimum capacity to charge those 2 batteries, and how long that it will take. Generally, chargers are rated at a volts and amps rating. I'm willing to bet that your 2 batteries are wired in series. You would need a charger that supplies at least 27 watts, or 1.2 amps, at 24 volts.
Now, let's change this around a little bit and get something that you don't need an electrical outlet for, and would go just about anywhere that you want to go. Look up "fuel cells". These nifty devices are small, but can charge your battery litterally anywhere, so long as you have fuel to power it. Generally they use propane, so a 1 or 2 pound cylinder would provide easy power to recharge your batteries. This means that with a little planning, you would be free to explore where you would never consider going before. The fuel cell burns a fuel, with air, and creates electricity. What I have seen, and asked about are fairly small, but can deliver the voltage, and current that you need. Their efficiency is over 85% for energy in, versus energy out.
We have two month old batteries in our Rascal Mobility Scooter. It has a built in charger and worked until this months regular charge. It has always been in a climate controlled environment. We need an answer before they loose their charge.
Usually I do not write very often however I just want to state that I would be happy to observe this query answered properly.
I am looking for a battery charger for a Pride mobility scooter. We went to the place we bought the scooter and they said a new charger was going to cost $167 and being on fixed income, cannot afford that. I have been searching everywhere online I can think of for a cheaper one. It is the male type charger with 3 prongs sticking out.If any knows where I can find one or has one for sale, let me know. My mother can't get around...she is cancer patient. Oh her medicaid will not cover new one. Thanks for any help!
I can't really help you without more info. Charger connectors differ in size and design.
I assume the 3 prong end is to plug into the wall. I looked at the Pride site, but they have so many models, I don't know what to look at.
What is the scooter model number, AND part number of the charger? What voltage is the battery?
Hi There:

Mobility Scooter FAQ - Razor A Kick Scooter
Scooter battery seems to charge faster than it lost. What should I do?
First, check the cables to the battery. Tighten any loose where it clean. Dirty cable could be the main cause for the "battery loss." If that does nothelp check the battery charger. If it's broken then it would not charge the battery fully. If the charger is still in good condition then you should find a technician to check it out. The battery could be broken and could no hold the power charge.
I have a mobility scooter and i want to buy a car big enough to carry it. Is there any good ones out there?
You can either get a truck or a van. There are many vans big enough to transport mobility scooters and power wheelchairs. Some examples are Chevy Uplander, Ford Windstar, Ford Galaxy, Dodge Grand Caravan, Toyota Tundra, etc. When you do buy one remember to add a mobility scooter...
