At this stage I don't want to go spending a fortune on one of those chairs that lifts up, as we don't know how long I will be in this state. Meantime I am trying to work out what to get to help me to get out of my chair. I had thought a walking frame or something, but I don't know if there is something more suitable. All advice will be gratefully received.
If you think you will need it only short term then a walking frame would probably do the job fine.
Many chairs at home are very low, you can get something to raise the height of your chair which makes it easier to stand without help. I'll edit if I can find one similar online.
When you are ready to stand up, shuffle your bottom as far forward on the seat as you can, again it makes standing easier.

I have a 12yr Irish cob who has a clicky hip, this don't seem to bother him until it rains or is damp. Then he can become a bit stiff on it, i do give him cod liver oil but is there anything i could use that will help make him a bit easier in his movement?

not sure what you're asking. If you're asking how people benefit by remaining mobile, well mobile usually means they are disabled and are using a wheelchair to be mobile, i.e. to be able to get around and do their own shopping, go to college in person, and work a job at the employer's place of business.
How many options are available to you when it comes to making the devices you use every day personal?
I've seen more and more options come out that help me make my prosthetic leg my own. I'm just wondering how everyone else adds their personal touch to their: Scooters, Wheelchairs, Crutches, walking sticks, Hearing aids, or other devices?
Did you order your customized device? Or did you get creative at home and make it a DYI project?
keep the answers coming.
I'll add my customs.
I've had fabric laminated onto my leg. The last one was pirate ships, castles, dragons, and wizards. I think my new one will be animal print or custom art.
I'm looking into making a custom art cover made to the shape of my real leg but not skin tone.
People stare at People with Disabilities anyway might as well give them something awesome to look at right?
Who said mobility aids, and devices have to look medical and boring?
I don't think this is exactly what you were looking for, but...one of my friends in college personalized her power chair with stickers and patches. One bumper sticker was pretty funny. It said "MTV pimp my ride"! I tried to find the same sticker for my manual chair, but couldn't.

McKeesport Sidewalk Deal May Aid Handicapped
(Source: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)
By Brian Bowling, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Oct. 16--McKeesport and the surviving plaintiff from a 2004 lawsuit have reached an agreement for making the city's sidewalks more handicapped accessible.
Rob Robertson, one of three wheelchair-bound residents who sued McKeesport, said the city seems willing to work with him and other residents who use mobility aids.
"They said this before, so we'll see if they do it this time," he said.
Attorney Jason Elash, representing the city, said McKeesport's efforts to add curb ramps and fix its sidewalks were hampered by the death of one of the plaintiffs who was advising the city, and a general lack of resources.
