What speed limit can electric (non mobility) scooter users go before needing a license?

I want to buy an electric (non mobility scooter) and use it within my town in New Jersey however I am wondering something What is the speed limit a person with an electric scooter can go before it becomes illegal and does it really require a moped / motorcycle license even if it goes 19 mph?

19mph

what are the advantages of using a mobility scooter over a car?

with the credit crunch taking effect and stuff i need to cut costs

ive been looking to buy a mobility scooter, they travel at about 8-10mph and go about 20-30 miles on one full charge, theres no tax, no mot, and no insurance, and dont need to fill up with petrol. and dont even need a licence to drive it. they can be parked just about anywhere, with no parking charges.and are so versatile they can get into places cars wont fit.

would be ideal for local work.
they have headlights, indicators, horn, window wipers etc.

i can carry all my tools on board, and use a pair of telescopic ladders collapsed/hidden behind.

theres lots of young people using them now, because there so cheap to run, and you dont need to be disabled anymore.

what do you think? good idea or bad idea?
its also better for the enviroment, theres no exaust fumes.

ok, im not reading that but...

scooters cost less and are more fuel efficient

but they look pretty gay, especially if u dont live in city with a warm climate

Besides Ebay, is there a good place to buy used items online. I need a good cheap portable ramp to ,,,?

to get a mobility scooter loaded in my van. It is just to bulky and heavy to take apart and lift every time.
Thanks in advance for any serious answers.
Matt, you're sweet, but it's not my scooter, just my van. I drive my sister who has cerebral palsey and her scooter is heavy and I am just not willing to dismantle it every time.

craigslist.org is the new eBay, but there are no listing fees (except for job postings) it's a wonderful thing. if you don't find your ramp, maybe you can find a boyfriend on there to help you lift your scooter into your van. ;-)

Giving my parents a mobility scooter with conditions...?

I dont have much of a relationship with my parents, especially my mother. This comes from their neglect as grandparents towards my son, whom I love more than anything. Recently my father has become ill and is now unable to walk great distances. I offered to buy him a scooter (mobility buggy) and he did not want one initially. Now he has agreed and it arrives tomorrow. I have a feeling that my mother wants to use it more than he does, which I suppose had to happen.

Anyway, I know from experience that my parents are liable to use this buggy then decide they do not want or need it. In the past they have sold or given away things like this that I have helped them out with once they tired of them.

In this instance (as the buggy is expensive) I do not want my parents to sell it or give it away. Hence, I am going to tell them that it is on loan to them from me until they decide they do not want it anymore. Is this wrong?
What is it about my son they have not accepted? I am not sure. There's so so many things they could choose as a reason: My wife is Angolo Indian and a catholic. My son was born on the same day as my late elder brother (which I take as a great message of goodwill from him) and maybe that freaks them out. I refuse to befriend my sisters abusive lowlife (Springer Show) husband. I refuse to accept my sister's abusive behaviour (theivery, drunkenness and general horridness)., I refuse to accept that my surviving brother is mentally handicapped, as my mother insists (I know he is just a 40 plus year old mooching bum pretending toi be an idiot to gain peoples sympathy).

Any one of those issues has caused my family to be estranged from me, but as to the ignoring of my son I think my wife is right. She thinks theat my parents just don't know how to behave and don't (for whatever reason) have any loving feelings towards me or my son.

Yes, I've had counselling over this :)

I think you are doing the right thing. You are a good son, who, despite such awful parents, is still able to help them.

Just safeguard yourself financially and emotionally. I know the kind of parents who think more of themselves than their children or grandchildren. You have a big heart, so please don't let them hurt you with their odd behaviour.

xx

my mum has a mobility scooter I think it is a Win med Travel-ease - problem is she has lost the key!?

I need information on where I can get a replace ment key for the Win med Travel-ease Mobility Scooter. I bought it fromn a Mobility Dealership on Ebay around 3 years ago. She has hardly used it and just discovered that the key is missing. I no longer have the details of seller. Any suggestions how I can obtain another key? Or do we just call out a locksmith and get him to make one?!

Buy your home medical equipment gently used to save money ...

Many people have a need for home medical equipment to help them get through their daily lives. But mobility devices, home testing equipment, and other home medical supplies can have a huge price tag attached. For example, new wheelchair alone can cost upwards of $400, and that’s only for a standard, low-grade model. For patients needing a motorized chair, the cost can easily total to over $1,000. And once you add in the little extras, like home and vehicle modifications, the total price will likely be way over any budget.

Buying new home medical equipment is simply out of reach for some people, especially if they don’t have health insurance to cover some of the costs. But there is an alternative to purchasing brand new home supplies—buying used. Used medical equipment is usually identical to new supplies except for one important difference: the price tag.
