Disabled Accessible Accommodation in London?

Hey Guys (:
It's rare that I'll get an answer from this, but it's worth a try.
I'm going for a long weekend with my 2 best friends to London, but as we're under 18, we kind of need an adult with us :/
So now both of my parents are coming, but my mum's disabled.
She's in a wheelchair, meaning we need accommodation (3 night stay) including:
-Wheelchair access, e.g. ramp
-Wheel-in shower or shower with fold-down chair
-Elevator/Lift

If anyboy knows any places that include all these, please tell me!
But, please nothing too fancy, all we need is somewhere we can sleep. And 2 rooms, 1 with triple beds or quite big double bed, and one thats wheelchair accesible.

I've looked but I can't find many.
Thanks :D
xoxo

what is jessica's clinical summary?

Well...I don't understand the question at all. But when I read the summary, I think, this gal is going to be really good at working with these patients. Keep up the good work!

Same Question - different category: PROs and CONs of a REVERSE MORTGAGE for my elderly parents?

My folks paid of house many moons ago, and now, just depending on Social Security and Mom's Medical Insurance, they are needing funds to live off of AND to assist in re-vamping the house.

They need to change the house somewhat physically because Dad will no longer be able to go upstairs (for showering) unless something is done SOON.

We are currently looking at options (such as a stair lift chair).

My siblings are very VERY wary of the Reverse Mortgage. They are afraid that someone will take the house from them when my folks pass away. I don't care about that as much as Ma & Pa need the money to help them have some Quality In Life. The house is junk, and falling on it's ear, anyway. I'm surprised it hasn't been condemned by the city, like the house next door to them that is now a lovely open lot.

yawnwho - yeah, that is my point - hang the estate. Ma & Pa are #1 in my eyes right now. I think the major hangup is my sibling who is the Executor of their estate, he has never owned a home, and I'm thinking that he 'hopes' that the house will fall to him...but I doubt he'd use it - probably just sell it.
I think I'm just going to have to just leave this to God.

A reverse mortgage can be wonderful if done right. I usually suggest that people take the funds as a line of credit. They request a sum for a particular thing and then spend it during the month that the check arrived. This way it wont affect any benefits that depend on your assets or income.
You will never outlive a reverse mortgage because they wont give you more than about 80% of the home value. What you get will be determined by age and value of the home. Sounds like your parents may have a problem getting a reverse mortgage if the home is in too bad repair.
All the charges are due when the mortgage comes due and you are charged a monthly fee (added in to what is paid at the end). The fees can be a bit hefty. The loan would only come due if a person dies, sells the house or is not living there for 12 consecutive months.
Whatever is left that was not used in the line of credit minus the fees would go to the persons estate if they pass away.
Be wary of companies that havent done reverse mortgages often or for a long time. Two of the best in the business are Financial Freedom and Wells Fargo. Make sure you are getting a mortgage backed by the Feds and that your parents go through the required independent counseling so that they are aware of what they are signing.
You might tell your siblings that if Mom or Dad has to go into a nursing home and is getting Medicaid, that the state will put a lein against the house anyway to get reimbursed for what they spent on Medicaid.
I think the wise choice is to talk to a reputable reverse mortgage specialist to see what they could get to make the home more adaptable. They can also use the funds to pay for in home care if needed.

sassy2 - you put the definition very clearly. That is a great point you brought up...have us 4 kids "buy" the house for Ma & Pa, then give them the $. I wonder if we could swing that. Biggest obstacle is that 3/4 of us kids have been financially poor all of our adult lives. The well-to-do sibling is just coasting right now, and is not *by any means* wealthy. Just comfortable in very modest home.
Hmmm. more ideas folks??

Im going to New York with my disabled brother?

Is there anywhere reasonabaly priced in the city, that caters for people with disabilities, we need somewhere with a lift, and a wheel in shower....also how difficult will it be on public transport using a wheel chair. Your help would really be appreciated, we are going round about November for xmas shopping, wheres good to go.....Thanx

Most all of the major hotel chains will have rooms that are handicapped-accessible, including wheel-in showers. You just need to ask when you make your reservation. Reasonably priced? Well, reasonable for Manhattan is crazy-expensive most anywhere else. Expect that rooms will cost you around $250 per night or so, before taxes.

You might also benefit from visiting the Big Apple Greeter website, which has an accessibility program:

Bath time can be a unpleasant task for the one that you love to do ...

Do you have a disabled family member or need handicapped accessories in the bathroom? There are plenty of various sorts of things in your local dispensary. If they can not help you, they can send you to someone who can. You might get on the internet and type in the search engines the keyword handicap hardware ; search around there is something for everybody to make their life a little simpler and safer.

Does your loved one have a hard time using the rest room stool? Sometimes getting up and down is tough for them, especially if it is lower than seventeen inches. Head to your local drugstore and ask them to raise your loo stool. Making the stool higher will help with back issues, leg issues making is easier for the to take a seat and again to get up. You can add handrails to make it easier yet. Several handrails are cartable and may be removed when they are not needed. Be sure they’re screwed into the floor to keep them from moving when in use.
