King Size Bed Mattress

My fiance and I are buying new, good-quality furniture piece by piece until our house comes together. Right now, we have a queen bed and the bed frame is old and out-dated (however the mattress is still very comfortable). We want to buy a king size bed, but wont have the money to purchase a new mattress for a while. Will it look completely weird to put our queen mattress in the king bed frame until we can buy a new king mattress? I know it's only temporary but I am a little obsessive compulsive about the way things look. Please, don't just say it will look okay if you are just assuming; it would be nice to have an answer from somebody who has seen this before. Thank you!

Not only will it look odd but you'll probably do yourselves some damage knocking your shins on the frame!

There's a 16 inch difference between the 2 matress sizes, So that's 8 inches each side you'd need to disguise.

Why not spend a little money and see if there's a 5ft base - like a futon or something - on an auction site until you are ready for the new base. Then put it back on the site to get rid of it.

I bought a King-size bed frame and headboard online and didn't realize that the mattress was a California King mattress.

We had exactly the same problem. Lucky for us, the store we bought it from exchanged it for us at no cost.

I did see some frames while I was there, and they were only $25 or so. It seems that you would be better off to buy one, since the investment in a bed is expected to last for 10 years or more. You don't want any unnecessary wear and tear on your mattress.

Rental companies don't offer one way cargo vans and a bigger truck is cost prohibitive. I could tow a trailer - I have a full size Jeep, but I'm a little intimidated driving 700+ miles with one. Thanks for your suggestions.

Advertise on craigslist and see if someone already driving there would like some extra cash to do it for you.

No, the CA king is longer and narrower than the standard king.

i just bought a bedroom suite,and the headboard is for a queen size bed, but i want to upgrade to a king size bed but keep the headboard. is it possilbe to put a king size mattress on top of a queen size box spring and still use the queen rails and headboard? it seems like i could, and have just a few inches of the king mattress hanging off all around the bed, but could it still work? has anyone ever tried this before?

you can try something we did for a full size with same scenario. we put against a corner wall and added a sheet of plywood under and against the wall side and that way you don't roll of one side and make sure you get a really long comforter or blanket to cover the sides. good luck.
