Does is my metal bed frame designed to fit my queen mattress?

I just bought a queen size mattress and frame from Craig's list. It is a pretty standard basic metal frame. My main problem with it, is that the mattress hangs off the end of the frame about 6 inches. I have looked online at similar frames, and many are advertised to fit full AND queen mattresses. I am not sure how this works as queen beds are longer. It fits width wise though, as that is adjustable.

The frame looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/ product-gallery/B0002CICVU/ref=cm_ciu_pd p_images_0?ie=UTF8&index=0

Is this the wrong size frame? Is it supposed to hang over? Is there something I can do (short of getting a new frame) to support the bottom?

Thank you for your expertise/insight!
Oops, sorry for the horribly phrased question. I should mention as well that I don't have a box spring (won't fit up the stairs), so it is rather annoying that the mattress just hangs down limply.

every metal frame ive ever seen is shorter than the mattress set, i guess it keeps you from hitting your leg on the metal frame....

make sure you frame has good center support if your using a queen mattress on it or your new mattress will bow in the middle....if it dont have the middle bar with a foot in the dead center,,, you may can stack some bricks or books from floor to dead center of your box spring...

I have a bed frame that requires adjustable sliding support members that rest upon cleats. Where can I . . .?

find more of these metal components to give added support? And yes I realize that the bed frame will be supporting the same amount of weight regardless of how many members there are. But with only two, the metal support members are sagging. Can I buy more of these metal pieces? What are they called? Thanks.

I don't know where you can get them, but a very good substitute is a worm type hose clamp. They come in different sizes and you probably need 2". Just be sure and tighten them down good, then jump on the bed and re tighten. Works great!

  • How to Repair a Rotted Door Bottom and Weatherstrip - Part 1 ...

Sagging, resulting in a torn weatherstrip on the active door and a significant gap between the doors near the center bottom. The doors are sagging because each door weighs 64.5 lbs and is a bit too heavy for the standard grade residential door hinges. I plan to replace the door hinges with heavy-duty models – the subject of a forthcoming How To article. The topic of this article is replacing the unexpected surprise of a rotted bottom frame and installing a new weatherstrip.

    Patio French Door Construction

The patio doors are metal skins folded over a wood frame with a foam core. The door hinges, dead bolt and door handle are fastened with screws to the wood frame. When I removed the door to replace the hinges and weatherstrip, I discovered the wood frame inside the bottom of door had dry rotted and was nearly gone!
