Adjustable Foam Mattress

I currently have a memory foam bed that I bought to help my back problems. Its the best thing ive ever bought but my wife hates it. Has anyone with back problems tried one of the sleep number adjustable air beds? I hear them advertised all the time on our local radio.

I don't have one of those but I have been using an Aerobed for years and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have a spine injury and what feels good tonight might not be what works for me tomorrow. It is fully adjustable and I have had no problems with it at all. It's a good, reasonable way to find out if air beds will work for you or not

Sure you can, but with only foam, unl;ess your talking about a mattress that is a boxed in frame on it.....if the mattress is factory boxed in simply put 4 1x4 slats spaced equaly across the frame..If it is just a piece of foam, no wood frame..you have to take plywood and cut to the size of the frame..and lay it in there...no nails or screws needed on the plywood if it is cut "tight"....

Okay, I bought a used (but in perfect condition) Tempurpedic adjustable base, that raises at the head and feet and also has massage action! Got a great deal!!

But, for the mattress, I bought an inexpensive memory foam off eBay (new from Sleepy Mountain Mattress). It was great for about the first 6 months! But, now, almost two years later... we hate it! The mattress has a giant sink hole in the middle and is really uncomfortable for two people trying to sleep together!

So, I'm looking for suggestions on a new mattress that is really firm, yet comfortable... AND... that will work with the adjustable action of our base?

Would especially love to hear from those of you who have owned your Tempurpedic (EXPENSIVE!) mattress for at least 3-5 years. They're supposed to have a 20 year warranty. (Well, so does the Sleepy Mountain Mattress we bought... but once you read the fine print, and figure out the way they pro-rate the warranty after the first 12 months, and factor in the difficulty in re-packaging and cost of shipping... well it would be cheaper to give it away!)

Does the Sleep Number work with an adjustable base frame?

We need a new mattress; please make your suggestions!

Comparing Tempur Pedic to an inexpensive memory foam mattress usually is not a fair comparison at all. One is the measure by which all others compare themselves too, while the other is merely cheap and inexpensive. In other words we are usually getting what we pay for when we buy cheap.

I used to sell Temp. and liked it a lot. My market did not support the extra $$$$ they cost, so we opted for Isotonic in our rural area.

I am a big fan of mattresses made with all natural Dunlop Latex. Not just and inch or 2 but 6-12 inches of latex, with no cheap filler foams is a great choice. Do a search on it. Reviews are very good for this category in general.

Mattress is on an adjustable bed. I have MS; it makes getting on bed difficult because of the height. How/is there any way that I can safely cut the foam shorter myself?

Also, is memoryfoam what I am wanting on an adjustable bed?

Having slept on urethane foam most of my life and built a number of beds, I would say the answer is no. Cutting the foam horizontally is going to very hard to do without being very ragged. I suspect you paid a small fortune for the thing, but memory foam mattress toppers up to 4" are available for under $100 so you could build up from a thinner mattress if you want the comfort. You may find that building a ramp and platform or a lift platform beside the bed is an easier solution. Or getting the legs of the bed shortened.
