What is the best mobility aid to use for rising out of a chair?

At this stage I don't want to go spending a fortune on one of those chairs that lifts up, as we don't know how long I will be in this state. Meantime I am trying to work out what to get to help me to get out of my chair. I had thought a walking frame or something, but I don't know if there is something more suitable. All advice will be gratefully received.

If you think you will need it only short term then a walking frame would probably do the job fine.
Many chairs at home are very low, you can get something to raise the height of your chair which makes it easier to stand without help. I'll edit if I can find one similar online.
When you are ready to stand up, shuffle your bottom as far forward on the seat as you can, again it makes standing easier.

edit - here's a link, and they are not as expensive as I thought they might be! http://www.betterlifehealthcare.com/view _product.php?prodID=6782

What do you suggest i could use as supplement to aid mobility in my pony?

I have a 12yr Irish cob who has a clicky hip, this don't seem to bother him until it rains or is damp. Then he can become a bit stiff on it, i do give him cod liver oil but is there anything i could use that will help make him a bit easier in his movement?
What is the point Ashley B??

You can get a 4 way supplement that has hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, chrondroitin and MSM for the same price as many glucosamine only products. All four assist with arthritis, joint lubrication and act as an anti-inflammatory. Here's a link for one such product.

How do people benefit by remaining mobility aid?

not sure what you're asking. If you're asking how people benefit by remaining mobile, well mobile usually means they are disabled and are using a wheelchair to be mobile, i.e. to be able to get around and do their own shopping, go to college in person, and work a job at the employer's place of business.

I need a Mobility Aid stool which will let me sit down whilst doing household chores.?

Such as ironing, washing dishes, preparing food etc. as I can't stand for more than a few minutes at a time due to arthritis. Can anyone tell me where I can get one? I've looked on a few mobility aids sites but all I can see are the shower stools, or bar stools which are too high. It would need to be of adjustable height as I am quite small. I'm sure I remember seeing one where the seat tilted slightly and really only supported your weight while you stood. But this was years ago before I needed it so I didn't pay much attention! Can anyone tell me where I can find one and what it is actually called?

As someone with Rheumatoid Arthritis, my advise, locate a Occupational Therapist and ask for a Home Assessment! I have just left Home again, lived with my Mother who is healthy while I have RA. Anyway the situation, while living with Mother they refused to give me any help, accept put Mother at 76 down as being my Carer! That failed when I ended up in a wheelchair, Mother could not push me. So off I went into a nice one bedroom wheelchair accessible flat, all on my own. The OT Home Assessment came around and I have lots of aids, appliances, kettle tipper to grabbing stick, let alone pots, pans and cutlery. What I did NOT know, they measure you for say a dinning room chair or living room chair, so sitting sown or standing up, takes all the strain off the joints, excellent. In fact I now look at the times I struggled at Home and realized just how much I struggled with silly things like filling up the kettle, or lifting the tea pot. Not anymore and the relief of being independent, being able to do silly things like slice a tomato with no problem has given me a new lease of life. I now think I was a fool to struggle for so long, but she is my Mother and I love her. OT Home Assessment opened my eyes to how easy ironing, making a cup of coffee, can be with Arthritis. Therefore before I would invest in anything ever again, I will ask the OT! I have just turned 49. Good Luck

  • Felixstowe TV - Trading Standards Warn Of Mobility Aid Cold Callers

Suffolk Trading Standards are warning Suffolk residents that there are some mobility aid companies who appear to be telephoning elderly local residents to make appointments for sales representatives to call.

Suffolk Trading Standards say the concern is that these callers are giving the impression that the reason for the visit is to discuss mobility allowances, when actually it means a consumer is more likely to accept an appointment expecting to see a representative from Social Services, or Occupational Therapy. However this visit, unfortunately turns out to be a sales representative from a mobility company attempting to sell an expensive and often unnecessary item or appliance.

In one case an 81 year old woman who agreed to an appointment after receiving persistent telephone calls from a person offering to discuss mobility allowances found that the sales man who turned up spent several hours in her home attempting to sell expensive and unnecessary products to her. Fortunately the victim did not part with any cash.
